RETRENCHMENT
AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE SAVINGS [by CABLE PRESS ASSN. COPYEIGHT.] (Recd. June 12, 11 a.m.) CANBERRA, June 13. Mr. Green, Minister for Defence, explained the means whereby expenditure on defence is to be reduced by half a million sterling in the army. There will be enforced leave without pay varying from one to eight weeks for all members drawing £221 and upwards yearly. The Navy will have reduced a personnel of approximately seven hundred officers and men while the naval reductions will amount to £326,368. There will be no dismissals from the Air Force.
