“BEAUTY” ENTRANT ROBBED.
[PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, June 13. “Apparently this man is a professional love-maker,” said the Chief-De-tective, when Cecil Granville, 41, pleaded guilty to obtaining money by false pretences at Waikino, and in Wellington in 1927. The Chief Detective said that accused got into touch with an entrant in a beauty contest, obtained an engagement ring from her, and borrowed £25 from her father. Then knowing the police were after him, he went to Sydney, where, according to the letter the police received, he had been at I the same game. He is a married man 'with three children. Six months’ imprisonment was the sentence imposed.
