The pageantry of Rome challenged the glamour of the East at the reception to Cardinal Lepicier, the Papal Legate, marking the opening of the Eucharistic Congress.

The procession was headed by ten Cardinals and 120 bishops, who were greeted - by the Government and military officials in the Cathedral Square.
