WAIUTA NOTES

[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

Mr. H. A. Ord, of the staff of the Blackwater Mines, was a visitor to Greymouth last week. Mrs. A. R. Gill left this morning for Wellington on a holiday visit. Mrs. Saunders (Christchurch) is visiting Waiuta, and is the guest of her sister, Mrs. F. Powick. Mr. E. Cameron le*ft this morning for Wellington. ,

Miss L. Wallace, who has been visiting Miss J. Cameron, has i-eturned to Greymouth.

Mrs. Dolton (Dunedin) accompanied by Mrs. Cate, were visitors to Waiuta this week-end.

Mr. J. Short, who has been on holiday in Dunedin, returned on Thursday evening.

Miss Alice Henderson (Paparoa) was a visitor tp Waiuta this week-end. Mr. W. Kennedy (Inangahua Junction) was a visitor this week-end. The Waiuta Public Tennis Club’s annual ball was held at the week-end in the Miners’ Hall, it being one of the most successful held so far this season, and was ample reward for the work done by the secretary and the committee. The hall was tastefully decorated in the Club’s colours and greenery. The music was supplied by Magee’s Excelsior 1 Orchestra, extras being supplied by Mrs. Ord and Mrs. Eklund. Messrs Bartlett and E. Lines made efficient M’s. C. Following are a few of the many pretty frocks worn: —

A team of League footballers from Nelson Creek played a match with the local team and after a fast and most interesting game Waiuta won by 11 points to 10. For the winners Burns, White and E. Lines scored tries, E. Lines converting one. For Nelson Creek G. Ryan scored two tries, both of which he converted. A Rugby match was played on the local ground,, the teams being the Reefton Waratahs and a newly-formed Waiuta team Waiuta won by 9 points to 6. For Waiuta Davis, Burns and Uren scored tries. For Waratahs J. Sara scored two tries, none of which was converted.

At a meeting of the League Club it was resolved that the secretary write to the West Coast Centre re playing a junior team in the Northern Division of the West Coast competition.
