The climax to a dispute between the Waterside Workers’ Federation and tlio shipowners concerning the employment of free labour, came before the Arbitration Court to-day. when Judge Beeby rejected a claim by the Watersiders’ Union for preference.

The Judge directed attention to the part that the Union had played in strikes on the waterfront. He said that tlio Court had long ago laid it down that the granting of preference did not guarantee industrial peace.
