Writing in the Christchurch “Sun,” on Saturday last, “Caleb” in his kennel notes, states: —“A round-the-kennels visit was paid during Easter to the Invergrey Kennels of Miss Viola Kettle, of Greymouth, where some exceptionally nice smooth fox-

;erriers are housed. First to be inspected was the tan and white stud log Gaylin Cluny (son of the interna-

tional chardpion, Lenterlin Gay), a good type of dog excelling in hindquarters, which asset he seems to be

successful in transmitting to his progeny. Next on the list came the black and white Birchley Bramble, a fine brood bitch that was secured from Mr R. G. Makin, of Wellington, and which has done well since entering the Invergrey kennels. Then appeared the pride of the kennels, Gaylin’s Model, a tan and white daughter, of the above pair. Model has done very well in her short show career, j and is a fine all-round specimen. Her j son Gaylin’s Heir ( Limerick) by Gaylin Cluny, an example of line breeding, shows good promise and is being retained in the home kennels. The -animals are fortunate in having excellent housing, plenty of exercising ground, and every attention.”

“In my experience, insurance companies in New* Zealand are extremely fair, and very prompt. Wellington trams show a profit for the year of £15,667, and the buses show a loss of £14,628, thus leaving a net profit of £1,039. One result is that the City Council is considering a reduction in the Sunday trams and buses, the traffic on that day being much affected by an increase in private cars. The passengers by tram were 46,581,456, an increase- of 836,496; and the pasengers "by bus were 1,285,915, a decrease of 20,968. The . Electricity Department shows: a profit of £59,395, and the Council has decided to reduce the tariff by £1,600, in adidtion to reductions of £25,000 made in January.—Press Assn.

As the result of the firing of a celttain shot in the Dobson Mine yesterday, one of the deputies, Jack Hart, will be proceeded against in the Magistrate’s Court, and will be charged with a breach of the regulations.; Mi* C. Hunter, the mine manager, stated to-day that there were all the appearances of a “gruncher” having been fired, although.the deputy maintained that, at the time he fired the shot, it appeared to him to be properly placed. The evidence seemed to be conclusive that it was a “tight” shot, said Mr Hunter. The possible effect of such a shot might be a blow-out, which in turn might lead to an explosion in the mine. The statement published this morning, that the deputy had been suspended, was not correct; action would be taken in the Magistrate’s Court.
