LATE MESSAGES
PALMERSTON N. May 6. The quarterly sessions of the Supreme Court opened this morning. True bills were brought against Bache Wright Harvey, alleged reckless driving of a motor car causing death, and Leonard- Douglas Anderson, alleged negligent driving of a motor cycle causing death. The trial of Haivey then proceeded. The charges are a sequel to a fatality which occurred on the Rangitikei line at Newbury on January IS last when accused s cai and a motor cycle collided, Hector Clarence Eggleton and Bertram Cecil Eaglehurst, driver and pillion rider respectively of the motor cycle being killed. Accused, a farmer of Waveiley, was driving from town, and the two deceased were proceeding to Bunnythorpe, when the fatality occurred at a road intersection.
WELLINGTON, May 6.
The Maunganui brought no fewer than 25 horses from Sydney. Only four are in training, the rest being yearlings and some brood mares, New Zealand speculators having been attracted by the bargain prices on offer in Sydney. The Awapuni trainer, George New has five. A. McAuley brought back Nightmarch, Trueshaft, and a yearling by Polycrates for Morgan O’Brien. Reed returns next week. W. Marks brought back Cimablue and two colts bought by H. Murphy. Hazlet’s Flicker also returned.

Castillo in his pastel oils exhibition at the Cambridge Gallery, includes refreshingly unconventional studies. Some critics express the opinion that they are reminiscent of Turner, particularly a Venetian colour rhapsody, also the vivid canvasses of London ■life.
