FIVE YEARS FORGOTTEN

MYSTERY OF WANDERINGS.

MANCHESTER, February 1. Air. Edmund Rose, the 54-years-old Liverpool clerk who was found wandering almost in a state of collapse and now lies in Noll Lane Hospital, Withington, is still unable to give any account of his adventures during his five years’ mysterious absence from home. A curious coincidence is that a greatunclo of Rose disappeared in similar circumstances many years ago. He left his home after dinner to return to his work and was never seen again. A few weeks after his disappearance his hat was found on the canal bank near Hyde, and it was thought that whilst out for a walk he may have fallen into the water, but the body was never found. ’ The mother of Air. Edmund Rose, who lives in Great Norbury Street, Hyde, told me to-day that she had decided not to question Rose too much about his experiences until he was in a better state of health.

The Mayor of Hyde, Mr. Thomas Aliddleton, could offer no explanation of Rose’s conduct.

‘ The whole thing is a mystery to me, he said, “for, knowing Air. Rose as I do, it was the-last thing I should have expected to happen to him. His home, life was very happy, he had a good job, and he was highly respected. . “The only solution I can put forward is that a complaint that Rose suffered from affected his memory. The last time I saw him he complained that he was suffering from severe headaches ” rile Alayor added that Rose was an exceptionally intelligent man, who took a great interest in all matters affecting education and music.
