RUNANGA SPORTS.

To-morrow the Runanga Sports will take place on the Domain, and the ground has been specially prepared for the occasion, which marks the silver jubilee. Given fine weather the attendance should easily establish a record, as in addition to patronage from Greymouth and surrounding districts, there will be present a large number of excursionists from Christchurch, under the auspices of the Corsair Social Club. The substantial sum of £IGO has beep provided for prize-money, while special attention has been given to those events for which trophies will ‘be awarded, the younger people being catered for in a generous manner. The axemen’s events are endowed with rewards to the winners; which will ensure a gathering of all the best exponents, while interest will be added to the running and cycling events by the presence of competitors from Canterbury. The winner of the 14-inch underhand chop will receive £4O and an axe, while first prize money in all other events is from £lO to £l2, clearly indicating the confidence of the executive in the importance of the gathering and in its power of attraction of the public. Refreshments will be available on the ground, so that intending patrons need not worry on that score, but can look forward to a really enjoyable day.
