DOBSON MINE DISPUTE

CONFERENCE AT WELLINGTON.

The latest development in the Dobson mine dispute is the arrangement ot a conference, to take place a * Celling ton on Monday, between, ie P lo^“ td ’ fives of the Coal Owners Association and the United Mine Workers. The secretary of the United Mi Workers, Mr. A. McLagan, yesterday communicated with the Association, suggesting that a of the deadlock might bo found at a conference between those organisations. ' The secretary of the Coal Owners’ Association, Mr. O. Bishop, who at present is engaged at New Plymouth on Arbitration Couit busl ' ness, replied to the effect that he expects to reach Wellington by the weekend, and that a conference could be held on Monday. The President (Mr. J. Smeaton) and secretary (Mr. McLagan) of the United Mine Workers, will leave to-morrow for Wellington. At a stop-work meeting this morning, the State Miners’ Union decided to accept the recommendation of the National Council, and to resume work on Monday, pending the result of the Wellington conference. With reference to the complaints regarding shortage of timber at the State mines, it was decided to write to the Minister of Mines, and, failing a satisfactory reply, to stop work as a protest.

The Blackball miners also decided to work on Monday, pending the result of the conference.
