Mr. C. Nelson was slightly injured whilst following his employment at the middle-brake mine on Tuesday. A second bore has been put down from the Anderson seam in the middlebrake to try to locate the Morgan seam, which has also proved unsuccessful. Mr. W. Warburton is expecting to start boring at Baddeley mine some time next week. A number of miners lodged a complaint to the Union as the result of a shortage of timber at th©’ Stato mines, with the result that the check inspectors visited all places yesterday, and the report will be heard at the Union meeting being held to-day. < The local library have entered, on the winter’s programme early.. A billiard handicap has been started, with thirty-two players. It is expected that some of the back markers will be close up in the final. . . The harvest festival thanksgiving services were held in the Presbyterian Church on Sunday. The Rev. T. N. Cuttie officiated at the service in the afternoon, whilst Mr. Bruerton conducted the evening service. Soccerites have gone into strict training for the incoming season. Seven Mile road is the scene of great activity on the players’ part. It is expected that a “dark horse” will turn up from this quarter at to-morrow’s sport. Runanga and Rewanui will both have senior teams, and local Soccerites will have the privilege of seeing the best of the locality against the Western senior club at Easter time. The Medical Society are holding a meeting in the Miners’ Hall on Sunday morning. Dr. Meade’s appeal against the committee’s decision will be heard, and it is expected that a lively discussion will take place. There will be plenty of amusement in the district during the week-end. Tonight we have the tennis ball, and tomorow we have the sports on the local domain, which promises' a good day’s outing if “King Sol” is on his best behaviour. On Sunday there will be the usual bicycle race to the Seven Mile and back.
Mr W. Robson was injured yesterday through a fall of stone at Baddeley and Party’s co-operative mine.. He was taken to his home and attended by Dr Meade. His injuries were not -serious.
