[per press association.] BILLIARDS TRAGEDY. DUNEDIN, March 26.Alec. Cations, aged 55, when playing billiards in Balclutha last night, collapsed and expired in a few minutes. The deceased leaves a widow and four of a family. FALL FROM TREE. CHRISTCHURCH, March 26. As the result of head injuries received when he fell from a tree, Lennox Wilson, a married man, died at the Christchurch Hospital this afternoon. Wilson was cutting branches from a large pine tree, ■when he fell from a high bough to the ground.
SCHOOLMASTER’S DEATH. INVERCARGILL, March 26. _ The sudden death occurred this morning, of Mr Archibald Ballantyne, headmaster of Clifton school. Mr Ballantyne had conducted school in the morning as usual, but was found dead after luncheon by one of the assistants. Death was apparently due to heart failure. WELLINGTON HARBOUR. WELLINGTON, March 27. In addition to reductions in charges during the last five years of £30,000, the Harbour Board brings into force further reductions on April 1 of £15,880. In answer to an assertion that the exporters are favoured, the chairman of the Board says that little more than half is on inward charges. LOWER HUTT. WELLINGTON, March 27. Since August, 1926, over half a million has been paid for sub-divided Government land in Lower Hutt, where a model township is laid out, and new railway workshops built. This is said to be the largest example of suburban close settlement in New Zealand.
