GRAIN AND PRODUCE. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 14. The market for oats has hardened since the last report. Both A and B Gartons for prompt delivery are haid to obtain, and from 3/11 to 4/- f.0.b., 5.1., has been paid for B’s for immediate shipment. The in trucks prices to-day are 3/6 to 3/7 for A Gartons and 3/4 to 3/5 for B’s. The on trucks price for Duns is 4/8. Wheat is coming to hand freely, but the millers are not buying much and there is a lot on hand. Values remain unchanged at Tuscan 5/8, Hunters 5/10 to 5/11, and Pearl 6/2. Fowl wheat is available at 5/10 for prompt. Sellers are refraining from quoting forward values. The barley yields in Canterbury will be exceptionally good. A few lines are offering. Malting is quoted at 4/to 4/3, and Cape, for which there is a good demand, is bringing 3/3 to 3/6 on trucks. There is not a great deal of the latter offering. The potato marekt is firm. A few' orders have been got away this month to Auckland, and the prices paid for these are £3 15s a ton on trucks. The on trucks price for March is quoted at from £3 12s 6d to £3 15s a ton. The small seeds market is quiet, and values are unchanged. There is very little offering, and the demand is poor. There has been a slight hardening in the market for however, owing to the fact that the imported seed is musty and not up to weight and description. A sale of linseed has been reported at £l7 10s f.0.b., 5.1., which is equivalent to about £l6 on trucks.. The linseed crops are not generally ready for the market yet. Sydney is desirous of buying at £l7, i.0.b., S.I. The latest quotations show a decrease in the price of pollard of 10/- a ton, its value now being £8 a ton.

ACTION AGAINST “BEARS.” SYDNEY, March 14. A decision has been taken by a joint meeting of the Stock Exchange brokers to prohibit forward selling when advisable. This is ■welcomed by the small investors here, and the conditions of the Sydney Stock Exchange are now practically back to normal. It is estimated that some of the “bear” leaders have reaped a rich harvest of many thousands of pounds in the “bear” raid which began after Christmas and was continued right up to a fortnight ago. There is also a percentage of “bears” who have lost heavily.

GEELONG WOOL SALES. MELBOURNE, March 14. The wool sales were resumed at Geelong to-day, 8000 bales being offered. There was a decline of 5 to H per cent, in prices compared with those at the last auction. BUTTER AND CHEESE.
