SPANISH UNREST
— ■—-—- ————— ATTACKS ON THE KING. (By Cable—Press Assn.—Copyright.) MADRID, February 15. The police were in conflict with unemployed, many of whom were wounded and arrested. The political and industrial situation throughout Spain is most confused. The Republican leader. Lerous, ami the Liberal leader, Unamino, are violently and abusively attacking King Alfonso. The public is becoming enlightened regarding the extravagance and maladministration on the part of the Dictatorship, which is contributing Io criticism of the King. Unemployment is now increasing owing to a cessation of De Rivera’s public works programme. A mob at Barcelona sacked the headquarters of the Patriotic Union, which supported the Dictatorship. Reinforcements of. gendarmes repeatedly charged and dispersed the rioters. King Alfonso, accompanied by the diplomatic corps, has left Madrid by special train for Riofrio on a hunting expedition. King Alfonso has issued a decree dissolving the National Assembly formed by De Rivera.
STRICT CENSORSHIP. LONDON, February 15. The “Morning Post’s” Madrid correspondent states: General Berenguer, is retaining a strict censorship. He aims at preventing new political parties being organised immediately. Republicanism is undoubtedly arising with a new vitality. There is a tendency on the part of the political elements to combine into groups of Republicans and Monarchists. A prolonged strike at smelting works at Sagunto gave rise to a report that a revolution -had broken out there, but this is without foundation.
