Rev. Father McKay, of Hokitika, left this morning for Christchurch. Mr'J. S. Robertson left this morning for Wellington. Mrs H. Lima and Miss Dulcie Lima have returned after a trip to Auckland and Rotorua. Mrs W. J. Butler, of Hokitika, was a passenger on this morning’s express for Christchurch. A London cablegram stated that Mr W. Lunn, Under Secretary of the Dominion Affairs, has been appointed Chairman of the Overseas Settlement Committee. The Rev. J. E. Draper, of Opotiki, has been appointed vicar of the parish of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Auckland, in succession to the Rev. G. Gordon Bell, who has been appointed vicar of St.- Andrew’s Church, Cambridge, and Archdeacon of Waikato. The Rev. J. Lawson Robinson, 8.A., after ten years’ successful ministry at First Church, Invercargill, has accepted a unanimous call to the pastorate of St. Andrew’s Church, Christchurch. Mr William McLeod, of Wanganui, was appointed woodwork instructor to the Greymouth Technical High School, at last evening’s! meeting of the Board. Mr Lionel Clark, the present instructor, will leave on Saturday to take a position at Rotorua. The deaths are announced from Sydney of Rev. Joseph Tarn, a veteran Methodist Minister, aged 74. He spent a little time in New Zealand. Also Alexander A. Rattray, accountant, died in England at the age of 75. He was born at Auckland and was there during the Maori wars. The death is reported from London of Sir Charles Monro. He saw active service among other’ places, on the .North-West- Frontier, India, South Africa, Dardanelles, Mediterranean Force, and France. After the war he was Commander-in-Chief, India, 191620, and Governor and Commander-in-Chief, Gibraltar, 1923-28.
Mr. W. Tisher, chief postmaster at Gisborne, has made application for retirement on attaining in February next 40 yiars’ service with the Department. It is his intention, together with Mrs. Fisher, to tour abroad for a few years. l before again taking up residence it New Zealand.
The death took place at Westport on Saturday evening of Mrs. Spillane. De<eased was a native of Ireland, but had been resident for many years id Westport, where her late husband,predeceased her. She is survived bj four sons, Charles, Edward, Jack, James and one daughter, Mary.

Brown, First Assistant Land Registrar, New Plymouth, to Assistant Commissioner of Stamp Duties and District Land Registrar, Westland. The changes will hot be- . come operative until March 1 next.
The Manawatu Racing Club has appointed Mr V. T. Dibble, assistant secretary of the Auckland Racing Club, to the position of secretary. 1 Mr Dibble is 31’ years of age, and went to the war with the 17th Reinforcements, when only 17, losing a leg at Messines. He returned to the Dominion in 1919, and after following commercial pursuits for a couple of years was appointed Assistant Secretary of the Auckland Racing Club in March, 1921. During the illness of Mr W. S. Spence in 1924-25 season he acted as secretary. He is a (qualified accountant and kas taken an active interest in the Returned Soldiers’ Assn. He will assume his new duties in a few days.
Mr J. H. who has been a member of the Magistrate’s Court at Greymouth for 12 months, will leave for Dunedin, on transfer, on Saturday. He was met by the Court staff today, and, on their behalf, was presented with a Loewe pipe by Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., who stated that, although Mr Miller had been at Greymouth only for a short period, he had proved "himself capable and willing, and they were sorry to lose him. Mr L. W. Louisson (Clerk of the Court) stated that no officer could have given more satisfaction than Mr Miller had done. In an appropriate reply, Mr Miller returned thanks for the gift, and expressed his regret at leaving the Greymouth staff, with whom he had established very cordial revelations. He will be succeeded at Greymouth by Mr J. King, of Hokitika.
