CROSSING COLLISION

CHILDREN IN CAR INJURED. (Per Press Association.)' ASHBURTON, December 3. The most serious level crossing accident for some time occurred last evening, resulting in the admission to the hospital of Alan Cookson, 16, with head injuries, broken collar bone, and internal injuries; Jack Cookson, nine, brother of Alan, broken, leg, severe shock; Reginald Finlay, seven, broken thigh and head injuries. Alan was driving the car which also contained Muriel Finlay aged five, when it was struck by an incoming train at. an angle in the rear, being carried. 30 yards. Alan, was pinned under the car and was released with difficulty. Jack was thrown into a fairly deep stream, being carried through a Culvert, about two chains long, but managing to crawl out on to the lawn. The Finlays were thrown clear, the girl escaping with a few cuts and bruises. Alan Cooksori and Reg. Finlay are in a serious condition. The Cooksons are sons of P. Cookson, Grey Street. Finlay’s father is J. Finlay, Aitken Street. The car is owned by Cookson and is a total wreck. LATER. The younger Cookson is named Kenneth, aged 5, not Jack. Both the Cooksons are seriously hurt, but their condition is satisfactory. Cookson tried to reverse when he saw the train, but was over the line before he performed the manoeuvre.
