MRS. BIGGS’ DEATH
FRIEND’S STATEMENT
HUSBAND A PREACHER (By Cable—Press Assn.—Copyright.) MELBOURNE, November 26. The police are puzzled by the Biggs case, particulars of which were cabled from Auckland after the arrival of the Ulimaroa to-day. The last seen of Mrs. Biggs was on November 1.18. Her husband left a note at the People’s Palace, saying. “I am leaving for Auckland to-morrow. You know where to find me.” 'i'he police cannot understand how the woman could get to Sydney with only 2s Bd, which was found in her purse. Mr. Biggs called upon a friend named Miss Martin at West Melbourne on November 19, saying he had left his wife doing shopping, and adding that they were both leaving for Sydney that afternoon, to join the ship. Miss Martin added that Mrs. Biggs, some days before, said that she was looking forward to the trip to Sydney and New Zealand. It is understood that Mr. Biggs preached at the Plymouth Brethren Church, West Melbourne, before he left. HUSBAND TO RETURN. AUCKLAND, November 27. W. H. A. Biggs, who was informed on arrival of the Ulimaroa yesterday that his wife had been found drowned at St; Kilda, returns to Sydney by the same steamer on Friday. Asked to-day whether he had seen the latest cable news from Melbourne, and that it did not altogether coincide with his published statement of yesterday, Biggs replied: '“I haven’t seen the cable, nor do I wish to see it. I have nothing whatever to say, having said al! I intend saying to the police. Good morning, and thank you.”
