OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT. A double star programme will be featured at the Opera House to-night. Fred Thomson, in “Kit Carson” and Rex Bell in “Wild West Romance.” The actioii of “Wild West Romance is laid in a small Western town. A gang of outlaws operating under the leadership of Brake Martin seizes the mine payroll and, to shift the blame, plant part of the money in Bell s shack. However, Bell befriends a tiny mite who has run away from an orphanage; and' together they stage a successful comeback after a series oi .dramatic adventures. SUNDAY NIGHT. “Pay as You Enter,” which comes to the Opera House Theatre on Sunday night, is said to have plenty of action, with a prize-fight, a hectic romance between Miss Fazenda and her street car suitors. COMPETITIONS SOCIETY. With a view to assisting towards the liquidation of the deficit sustained by the Competitions Society’s last Festival, it has been decided to hold a Competition for children on Friday, October IS, in Trinity Hall, beginning at 7.30 o’clock, which will consist of an own selection song for boys and girls under 12, and for boys and girls from 12 to 15 years, also a spellingtest and pronunciation test for the same classes. During the evening a debate will take place between the St. Columba and United senior teams on the subject, “That men work too hard.” Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., who is to judge the debate, will also judge the spelling and pronunciation tests while Mr Eric Moss will judge the singing classes. Admission to the hall will be one shilling, and entrance to the various competitions will be free with post entries. MAWHERA DANCE Don’t miss the Mawhera Hockey Club Dance to be held in the Oddfellows’ Hall to-night, Saturday, Steel’s full orchestra will supply the latest music hits. . COBWEB FAIR Great variety will be the keynote of the Fair taking place at the Salvation Army Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday. A visit will be well warranted.
