ATTACKS CONSTABLE. SYDNEY, September 27. The dangers of interfering in a domestic dispute were very clearly illustrated last night, when Constable Barwick, of the Redfern police, venturing to interrupt a heated argument between a man and his wife, was attacked by the pair. Shortly before midnight, Constable Barwick was passing a house in Hugo Street, Redfern, when he heard what he afterwards described as “exceedingly foul language.” In the kitchen of the house he found a man and a woman quarrelling. He arrested the man on a charge of having used indecent expressions, but the prisoner refused to “go quietly.” A fierce struggle ensued, the combatants rolling over and over, upsetting chairs, a table, and other furniture. Eventually, although he was subjected to a. fusillade of crockery by the woman, the constable gained the upper hand, and handcuffed the man. The .woman seized a carving knife and made a rush at him. The constable caught her arm and wrenched away the knife, but received a cut in the thumb.
