KUMARA NOTES

- (Our Own Correspondent.) Mr. and Mrs. Hamer who have been on a visit to the North Island, returned home on Thursday. After' a week’s absence in Christchurch, the Rev. Mr. Vickers has returned. Mr. John Coutts, of Auckland paid a ] visit to Kumara during the week. Mr. I Coutts is a brother of Mrs. Christie of Boundary Road. Cycling down the Zig Zag the other day, Mr. J. Hemera met with an accident, through the brake on the machine failing to act. Hemera, who was carrying a child, was thrown heavily with the result that he incurred serious injury to one of his lips, in addition to minor cuts and bruises. The child escaped unhurt. Whilst at work on the Taramakau bridge on Thursday last, the contractor, Mr. C. O’Donnell, narrowly escaped being run ovei’ by a motor car which was travelling at a dangerous speed across the structure, notwithstanding that danger signals are placed at either end of the bridge. The excessive speed at which the motor was running together with the fact that no warning was given tends to aggravate the offence. Unfortunately, the number of the car escaped notice, otherwise more would have been heard of the occurrence. The Mayor, Mr. Spiers, who has been on a business visit to Christchurch, is expected home this evening.
