BLACKBALL NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent). Members of the Blackball Silver Band• are practising assiduously under the baton of Mr. Tom Kerr. The school committee held their monthly meeting on Monday evening. Present: G. W. Nuttall (Chairman), R. R. Smith (Secretary) W. Weir, A. Robertson, J. Vaughan, R. Nelson, T. Hayward and the Headmaster (Mr. W. Stirling). The Secretary reported having received a communication from the Education Board that the Board authorities had decided to acquire the site for the proposed new school building from the local Coal Coy. Several local Soccer enthusiasts intend being present at the RewanuiDobson game on Saturday at Dunollie. Will the challenge issued by the local club in quest of the Blackmun Cup eventuate this season? Providing the rules governing this trophy are not complied with in their entirety there is a danger of this cup being withdrawn from annual competition. The Committee of the Blackball Athletic Club held a meeting on Tuesday evening in the Miners’ Hall. There being present Misses H. Neilson and T. Park, Mesdames W. Neilson, O. Boustridge, Messrs C. Hogg, H. Caldwell, J. Dodds, A. Jamieson and the Secretary J. Vaughan, Mr. A. Jamieson presiding. It was resolved to carry on with the children’s fancy dress ball, and concert in aid of Club funds.. After discussion, it was deemed advisable, owing to the industrial crisis which has arisen in the district, to cancel indefinitely the proposed “Helping Hand Shop.” Sam Clark, who has been an inmate of the Grey Hospital for some considerable time, has returned to his home at Blackball.

Mr. Nat. Brownlie (Nelson) is on a visit to Blackball as the guest of Mi. R. Clark, Moonlight Road. Local Soccerites are elated over the success of the schoolboys’ team in securing the primary schools senior championship without even the loss of a goal. Their tally read 29 to 0.
