CABLES AND WIRELESS

NEW COMBINE’S IDEAL.

(United Service.) (By Cable—Press Assn.—Copyright.)

LONDON, September 28. A new page in the history of Empire communications starts on Monday, when all the British cable and radio systems will be operated by the new fifty-three millions sterling Imperial International Communications, Ltd. Sir Basil Blackett, the Chairman, on. the eve of this mighty concern’s debut, told the “Evening News” that “the physical transfer marks a further big step in the rationalisation of Imperial communications in the interests of improved service. “We are very conscious," he said, “of our great responsibilities as an Imperial public utility company, working with the Government of the Empire, and supervised by an Advisory Committee representing all the Dominions. We are the servants of the public and the Empire, and will spare no pains in endeavouring to serve the interests of our customers and to forge even closer the invisible links by wire and wireless to keep the several parts of the Empire in intimate communication.’’
