REEFTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent?

REEFTON, September 27. The members of the Consolidated Club and of the Reefton Bowling Club assembled at the former’s Club room last evening to bid farewell to Mr A. E. Werry, headmaster of Reefton school, who leaves for Lower Hutt tomorrow to take up his new appointment. Mr J. B. Auld, chairman of the Club and President of the Bowling Club, presided, and after apologising for the absence of several members ot both Clubs owing to sickness and other causes, referred to Mr Werry’s departure, which he regretted. He congratulated the departing member on his new appointment and noted the fact that the Reefton scholars’ success in the secondary school could not be accomplished without a good foundation having been laid in the lower classes, and this was due. to Mr Werry’s tuition. He wished Mr and Mrs Werry and family health and prosperity in their new home, at the same time presenting Mr Werry with an Eversharp pencil from the Consolidated Club, and a set of military brushes from the Bowling Club. In replying, Mr Werry thanked all for their handsome presents. He regretted leaving .Reefton, where he had spent seven years with pleasant associations, and he and his family had enjoyed the best of health. He hoped to revisit Reefton at some future time, and it was not impossible that when he was superannuated he would come to Reefton to spend his declining years. At the Warden’s Court to-day, Mr W. Victor Ernest McColl, surrender sawmill license No. 5107 and two timber reservations. —Surrender accepted, the Warden remarking that in his opinion the Commissioner of State Forests had power to deal with the matter.
