GILLIGAN’S TEAM’S DEPARTURE

LONDON, September 28. “We have a fine team and a good set of fellows,” was the farewell of Gilligan, the captain, when the Marylebone cricketers left for Australia to-day. Mrs Legge, Mrs Woolley and the latter’s three-year-old daughter accompanied them. SYDNEY RESULTS. SYDNEY, September 29. Yesterday the cricket season opened here. In the first grade matches, playing for St. George against Glebe, Don Bradman made 148 not out, and Fairfax 46. For Petersham against Northern districts, Tommy Andrews made 102. Bowling for Western Suburbs against North Sydney, Dupain took 7 for 27. For Gordon against Manly, Macartney took 5 for 30. OXENHAM IN FORM. BRISBANE, September 29. Ron Okenham. bowled the whole of the Northern Suburbs team yesterday, taking 10 wickets for 32.
WATERSIDERS’ ANNUAL The annual meeting of the Water-side-Omoto Cricket Club was held in the Watersiders’ Hall, Richmond Quay, yesterday there being a large attendance of members. Mr. H. Kear presided.
The election of officers resulted as follow:—Patron: T. E. Coates (reelected). Vice Presidents: Held over. President; H. Rear. Secretary: W. J. Tilleyshort; Treasurer: J. Jackson. Trustees: Messrs T. Brown and Malloy. Committee: All playing members. Club Captain: C. Ingrain. Vice-Captain T. Malloy.
Several new members were nominated and accepted. It was decided to lay down a new pitch at Omoto, members to form a working bee.
The Captain, Vice-Captain and Secretary were appointed a selection committee.
The Secretary was instructed to write to the Grey Jockey Club and Waterside Union letters of thanks for favours extended to the Club during the past season. It was decided to play a friendly game with Kumara in a fortnight. Subscription was fixed at 5/- per member.
Mr. Kear was elected delegate to the West Coast Centre. It was decided to nominate one junior team for the season. *
A lengthy discussion took place on the matter of grounds and it was decided to assist wherever possible clubs not fortunate enough to possess playing areas. The Custodian reported all gear to be in first class order. By the enthusiasm shown a successful season is expected. A motion of condolence was passed to the relatives of the late Captain Ross, who had been a vice-president of the Club for some years.
