SKIN BUYER ROBBED
BLINDED WITH PEPPER. BATHURST (N.S.W.), Sept. 19. William George Franks, skin buyer, in the employ of a local firm, told a sehsational story to the police. He said that while he was driving a motor lorry along Caloola Road, 15 miles from Bathurst ,a young man accosted him. When he drew up the man entered into conversation regarding the purchase of rabbit skins, and directed Frank’s attention to the opposite side of the road. When Franks turned a quantity of pepper was thrown in his eyes, temporarily blinding him. Then his pockets were rifled of £134 in notes, entrusted to him by his employer to purchase rabbit skins in the country. Frunks says be believes two men robbed him, although he only saw one man before the pepper was thrown. The police made investigations, but failed to discover any trace of a man answering to the description furnished by Frunks. The money, which the police ascertained had been handed to Frunks by his employer, is still missing. A man has been arrested at Goulburn on a charge of vagrancy. The police are making further inquiries.
