SURGEONS’ CONFERENCE
(Australian Press Assn. —United Service.) (By Cable—Press Assn—Copyright.) HONOLULU, August 22. At the Surgery Conference, a discussion developed on the fact that heel fracture was widely prevalent in the United States, though infrequent in Australia. The surgeons could advance no scientific reason, though some suggested it might be due to the absence of bootleg whisky, in Australia, since this condition resulted most often from falls. Dr James Jenkins, one of the New Zealand delegates, presented a technical paper on kidney and bladder surgery.
Drs. Hardie Neil and Harry Harris have been appointed, on resolutions of the committee, Pan Pacific Conference surgeons. KING’S RECOVERY. RUGBY, August 23. A conference of meteorologists from all parts of the British Empire began in London to-day, under the Secretary for Air (Mr Montague). In his opening speech, lie remarked upon the official importance of meteorology in regard to aviation. He said the need for adequate meteorological organisations to meet the requirements of air transport services became a matter of vital importance on Empire air routes in the jn’ocess of formation. An important part was also played by meteorology in other directions, such as in services. It was manifestly clear thac the exchange of information, co-ordina-tion of plans and perfection of organisation of meteorological services -n these interests, were of fundamental importance to the British Empire. The possible services of the British Empire to the world in this regard were also surely of vast importance. The true ideal of Empire was service. It was in its service to civilization and peaceful development for the benefit of the whole human race, that our great Empire was to be judged.
