ARBITRATION COURT
MINISTER OPPOSES ABOLITION (Per Preaa Association.) WELLINGTON, July 31. Replying to an hotel workers’ deputation. Mr. Veitch (Labour Minister),, emphatically stated that he would not help any movement having for its object the abolition of the Arbitration Court. He admitted that improvements in the constitution of the Court might be desirable. “We know that a strong effort is going to be made to abolish the Court, and I want to see the Arbitration Court retained if I possibly can.” , The deputation preferred quite a number of requests. The Minister said that the question of forming of Dominion unions was one that involved a very big principle and he was not at all* sure they should alter the law in that regard. However, he was quite willing to go thoroughly into the matter. He would also go into the question of citation of parties. He was prepared to re-open the matter of a full day off, remarking that the request on the face of it appeared reasonable. In regard to females being employed after ten thirty p.m., the Minister said that unless there was a strong case against it, he would have the matter fixed up. i '
