HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL. (Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, July 27. The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening. Present: Crs T. W. Duff, A. R. Elcock, J., King, A. C. Armstrong, E. W. Heenan. Cr. Duff was voted, to the chair. Apologies were received for the absence of the Mayor (Mr Perry) and Crs. Teichelmann, Evans and Turner. Messrs Walsh and Lincoln wrote relinquishing excavation contracts Nos. 1,2, 3, and 4, at Lake Kanieri, unless Council can guarantee wages at 15/- a day each. Messrs Harris and Hutchison, Kanieri, wrote offering to perform excavation contracts, Nos 1, 2, and 3, for £144 15/-. Messrs Wells Bros., Kanieri, wrote offering to perform excavation contracts at Lake Kanieri, Nos 1,2, 3 and 4, for £200.— Accepted. m - * N.Z. Refrigerating Coy., Christchurch, advised that 64 sheep, o lambs and 1 cattle, had been delivered into Hokitika during the month of June, 1929. ,»• A tt The relatives of the late Mr A. ±l. Keller, wrote thanking the Council ioi expressions of sympathy. Received. L. Gooch wrote accepting the Council’s terms, re rental of Borough Reserve in Hall Streeet. The Treasurer’s statement showed a debit of £ll9 13/5. Accounts amounting to the sum of £716 8/4 were passed for payment. . A system whereby the various caiters of the town may receive a fair share of the Council’s carting was devised by the Chairman of the I.W. Committee (Mr A. C. Armstrong) and submitted to the Council, but consideration was held over for a luliei meeting. , „ The question of calling tenders for the supply of beach and pit grave , was discussed, Councillors considering the Council would be better served by contract. Cr ■Armstrong contended that it was not good for people to work for too little. There should be a minimum price. . It was ultimately resolved to call for tenders for fine beach gravel to be delivered at ; the dump and pit gravel to be delivered where required.
