HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

HOKITIKA, June 15. The ordinary meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council was held last evening; Present: The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry), Crs T. AV. Duff, E.- W. Heenan, G.. Heinz, J. L. Turner, A. C. Armstrong, Jas. King, E. Teichelmann and D. J. Evans. An apology was received for the absence of Cr Elcock, in Wellington. The Secretary, Hokitika Harbour Board, wrote pointing out the damage that will probably result if river breaks through the north wall, and intimating that the Marine Department had been approached to obtain an Engineer’s report. The Harbour Board solicited the cO-operation of the Council in any measures that, may be taken. —Resolved to support the Board. Mr H. E. Jarman, Christchurch, acknowledged Council’s letter of sympathy, and tendered resignation of his father, Mr John Jarman, as the manager of the Abattoirs. —Resignation accepted as from May 31, and a letter of appreciation of services to be forwarded. The Commissioner of Transport, Wellington, wrote asking Council’s co-operation in having all traffic signs required by Motor Vehicles Regulations, 1928, erected, and intimating that if requirements are forwarded,

ing of orders for signs with the object of arranging a group “Manufacture and Supply” contract, and that his Department would be prepared to assist towards this objective. A. R. Elcock wrote asking the Council’s consent to F. G. Amberger subletting a portion of Reserve No. 163, Sub-section 2 (Lease No. 2083), to G. H. Fearn, Koiterangi, farmer, for a period of five years from June 7, 1929, with an option to take over the whole of Mr Amberger’s lease at any time during that period.—Consent granted, the Mayor and Cr King to i sign transfer. The Medical Officer of Health requested that notices be served on the following hotelkeepers to effect certain repairs in their hotels: —Occidental Hotel, Commercial Hotel, Central Hotel, Southland Hotel, Dunedin Hotel, Pioneer Hotel. The Secretary local Returned Soldiers’ Association wrote stating that about £4O will be available this year from the sale of poppies.—Resolved that the money be subsidised, and that the men be employed in making concrete pipes. Mr Wm. Robinson asked permission to erect a kerbside petrol pump at his section in Weld Street. —Request granted. Accounts amounting to £261/2/2 were passed for payment. The Treasurer reported receipts amounting to £312/16/9; payments £431/18/5; Debit £206/14/-. Tenders for painting the Abattoirs and residence: —Hausemann Bros £4B/7/0; Scott and Co. £5B 10/5; C. D. Fowler £ 60.—Resolved

that Hauseman Bros.’ tendei’ be accepted.

Tenders for t fencing at the Hokitika Abattoirs: —A. J. King £9/17/6; J. Duncan and Sons, £25. The tender of A. J. King was accepted.

Tenders for excavating at Lake KanierL One tender was received, but it was considered the tender was too high, and therefore doclined.
