GIRL GUIDES
A. KUMARA ASSEMBLY For some weeks past preparations have been going on for holding a camp for the West Coast Girl Guides. Miss O’Rorke (Commandant of the camp), and Miss Loe (Assistant Commandant) arrived on Saturday with a quantity of camp equipment. They went on to Kumara yesterday to complete arrangements. The camp is being held in the building formerly used as the Old People’s Home. The Hokitika Guides numbering ten went into camp this morning, while the Reefton Guides (seven) joined with the Greymouth Guides (six) and left by the midday goods train for Kumara, a carriage having been attached to the train by courtesy of Mr. Fowler, the local stationmaster. Owing to the lateness of the season, the camp, contrary to the usual practice, is being held in a building instead of under canvas. Nevertheless the ordinary camp routine is being adhered to. A full programme of instruction has been prepared and the time of the girls will be fully occupied. On Sunday a church parade will be held and in the afternoon the camp will be open to visitors. Camp will break up on Tuesday, May 21.
