FRAUDS ON HOTELS
SISTERS SENTENCED.
LONDON, February Bessie .Roc.ock (57), teacher, and Beatrice Mcßride (44)‘ sisters, both .of Hills Road, Cambridge, were sentenced at Bow Street yesterday i; to six months’, iniprisonment with hard labour for fraudulently incurring debts at hotels in Bloomsbury. r A v previous conviction for theft was proved against each. . . 'Mrs. Bessie Isabel Talbot,- i . their mother, 74 years old, who was charged with them, was acquitted and sent to the workhouse. ? It Was stated that the three, women, with two children, had stayed ,at several h0te15,,,., and. paid tlfe first week’s, bill. . When .the next bill was presented Mrs. Pocock represented that she was expecting a cheque from her and that a. friend was coming, with money, from South Africa. -.Det.-Sergeant.Pitts said that Mrs. Mcßride was ,the widow of . a doctor who died in New Zealand five or six years ago. She had sin'ce “rUn through” several thousands of pounds, and had been going front place to place living in this sort of way for the last twelve months. Their troubl'd was due to drink,. Mrs. Pocock had hii allowance from her husband.
