PERSONAL NOTES

A British official wireless dated yesterday, stated after spending a good night, the King rose early in the morning, and soon after breakfast, went for a walk in Craigweil House grounds. During the' day there was a cold easterly wind, but the weather was bright, and the King spent a considerable time in the grounds.

Miss Evelyn James, who has been visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs I. A. James,. Cowper Street, returned this morning to Wellington. She was, accompanied to Christchurch by her sister, Miss.C. James, who has been paying a short visit to Greymouth.

Mr A. Budge and Miss Williams, who attended th© McComish-Goodwin wedding at Runanga yesterday, returned to Christchurch to-day, and Miss Kidd left for Wellington. - Mrs and Miss 'Robinson will return to Christchurch to-Tnorrow, and Mr V. McComish will leave for Wellington on Saturday.

Miss L. M.' Trumble, matron of the Nelson Fresh-Air Home, has been appointed matron of the Christchurch Hospital Board’s tuberculosis institutions. Miss Trumble was trained at the Christchurch Hospital, was matron of the Infectious Diseases Hospital, saw several years’ war service, and was matron of the Military Sanatorium for four years.

Mr la. Jackson, whose marriage to Miss Doris Clarke took place at Cobden this afternoon, was presented by Messrs Ashby, Bergh and staff, of which he is a member, with a silver tea set. The presentation was made by Mr G. Ashby, who extended the good wishes of the firm, and his remarks were endorsed by Mr F. Congreve, on behalf of the staff.

Mr G. Doig, of ■ the Bank of New South Wales staff, who has been transferred to Christchurch, left by to-day’s express. He was farewelled at the station by members of the United Football Club, to which he has been attached, and was presented with a wallet, the presentation being made on behalf of the Club members by Mr F. M. Dennehy.
