The body of Mervyn Barrett, aged 25 years, was found in a paddock on a farm at Evan’s Creek, South Westland, yesterday morning about seven o’clock, two hours after ( he left the homestead. Deceased and his father had been in the Hari Hari district for tho past five years, Barrett had attended a dance at Evans Creek on Monday evening, and appeared in his usual health. Dr. Bell, of Hari Hari, certified that death was the result of an apoplecWc seizure, and an inquest will not be held. Deceased’s mother is residing at Wanganui, and he leaves two brothers (Mr C. Barrett, manager of the Inter-Wanganui Dairy Co., Herepo t and Mr A. Barrett, of Toohey’s Motors staff, Hokitika.)

The discussion of employment for boys on farms, led some members of a meeting of the Wanganui branch of the - New Zealand Farmers’ Union to relate some rather remarkable incidents, says the “Chronicle.” Included among these was one, wlfich if true does not Speak too highly for the employer. A lad who had undertaken a position on a farm, asked his employer for a haircut. This was given on the understanding that ninepence be stopped from his swages. On another occasion the same employer gave a youth a calf. This he kept and looked after in a manner which was a credit to the boy, until the animal had almost reached maturity. Then the employer made his presence felt, by taking the fatted calf, selling it, and adding insult to injury, by telling his “victim” that he would replace it with another calf.

> A serious accident occurred at Moonlight this. morning, when Mr John T. Kinsella, sawmiller, slipped on the breaking-down bench and fell on the saw at his mill. The Grey County Council ended its financial year on March 31 with a credit balance for the first time for many years. The County Clerk, Mr M. Keating, reported to the meeting to-day that there was £3OB 18/4 in the bank, and £9Ol 18/4 in hand owing to the bank holidays, making a credit balance of £l2lO 16/8.
