HARBOUR SWIM
MISS COPPLESTONE’S FAILURE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 31. Miss Lily Coppiestone failed to-day in her effort to swim Wellington Harbour, doing about three miles and being in the water about 2i hours. The water was too rough and cold and choppy. She was accompanied part of the way by Miss K. Miller, Miss Lambert and G. Rose. Miss Coppiestone was not distressed when taken out of the water, but the accompanying boat was not large enough to afford her any protection as it went along on the windward side. The day itself was very cold and unsuitable for distance swimming. The Eastbourne Borough Council's Muritai, which took passengers to view the swim, had difficulty in getting clear of the Ferry Wharf. It i was swung by the hard wind on to i the Wahine and ghazed along half ® that vessel’s length before getting clear. There was no damage to either vessel. A motor launch that x was also going across watching the ;. swim fouled a rope round the pro- !• peller.
