HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

HOKITIKA, March 23.

The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry), and Crs Jas. King, A. R. Elcock, T. W. Duff, D. J. Evans, G. Heinz, E. W. Heenan, Dr Teichelmann. Apologies were received for the absence of Crs Jeffries and Armstrong.

The District Highways Council forwarded £32, final payment of subsidy for maintenance for year ending 31st March, 1928. The Secretary, Hokitika Ladies’ Hockey Club, applied for permission to use No. 2 ground, Cass Square, either on Wednesday or Saturday, according to the Statutory closing day fixed. —Request granted, subject to ground being required, and arrangements made with Rugby Union.

The Hon. Secretary, Fire Brigades’ for contribution towards deficit in connection with the Demonstration expenses.—Referred to Finance Committee.

G. B. Haussfnann, Hokitika, applied for drainage connection to premises, connection of Brittain Street and Gibson Quay.—Granted. The Westland Cool Storage and Dairy Coy., applied for permission to install a Petrol Tank on the property of Messrs Gooch and Co., Stafford Street.- —Received.

H. Jones wrote asking for permission to transfer section to A. Appleton. —Request granted. The Treasurer reported receipts amounting to £393/10/6; payments £244/4/5; Credit balance £302/4/10. Accounts amounting to £392/16/2 were passed for payment.

The consideration for tender of lettering Cenotaph was adjourned till next meeting. The requisition for a poll to be taken on the question of a Saturday half holiday was accepted as in order, and a poll was ordered to be taken on May 1, during the Municipal elections.
