SYDNEY OUTCAST’S DOOM

WOMAN STRANGLED (Australian Press Association.) (By Cable—Press Assn.—Copyright.) SYDNEY, March 22. A gruesome discovery was made on a flower bed in Hyde Park, in the centre of the city, to-day. It was a woman’s dead body, with her hands tied behind her back, with the features distorted, and a wound over the left eye. The City Coroner viewed the body before its removal.

A post mortem examination revealed that the woman was strangled or smothered overnight. She has been identified as Vera Sterling, with a number of aliases, a woman who regularly slept in the parks. The police express the opinion that the woman probably was outraged, and then murdered. NEW ZEALANDER’S WIFE. (Received March 23, 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, March 23. Vera Stirling is believed to have been a member of a well connected English family, and the wife of a New Zealand sea captain. Her associates described her as a s cultured woman, but the victim cf drinking ‘ methylated spirits. There is no evidence that the woman was outraged, but the police are certain she was murdered.

BABIES’ BODIES IN GARBAGE.

SYDNEY, March 22.

Another ghastly discovery was made in a different part of the city. Two newly born babes, a boy and a girl, both dead, were found in a garbage tin. A pedestrian passing saw a baby’s limb protruding from a parcel. He called the police, who unwrapped the covering, and disclosed the bodies. FATHER SHOT. MELBOURNE, March 22. At the inquest on the death of David Wilson, it was alleged that Anne Hillard (his housekeeper) had made a confession she shot Wilson. , The Coroner found Hillard guilty of murder, and Albert Wilson (son of deceased) of being an accessory before the fact. Both were committed for trial.

JOCKEY’S DEATH.

SYDNEY, March 22.

The Coroner to-day committed Al:red Ellis for trial on a charge of murlering his son, a jockey, on March 15.
