EDUCATION BOARD

TRIBUTE TO LATE MR. KILGOUR

(Special to “Star.”)

CHRISTCHURCH, March 22.

At a meeting of the Canterbury Education Board, held to-day, feeling reference was made by Mr. H. J. Bignell to the death of the late Mr. F. H. Kilgour. Mr. Bignell stated that he had been associated with Mr. Kilgour on the Greymouth Main School Committee and the Greymouth Education Board for very many years. No one took a keener interest in the cause of education and the welfare of the children than did Mr. Kilgour, and not only those connected with education, children and adults alike, but the whole of the community would regret his passing. At the time of his death, Mr. Kilgour was a member and treasurer of the Technical School Board of Governors, and was also a trustee of the Seddon Medal. Mr. Bignell moved that a vote of condolence be passed and that a letter of sympathy be sent to the relatives. The vote was carried in silence, the members standing.

Mr. Bignell stated it was necessary to fill the vacancy on the Greymouth Technical High School Board caused by the death of Mr. Kilgour. He therefore moved that Mr. W. H. Parfitt, who had formerly been a member of the Board, be appointed as one of the Education Board’s representatives. The motion was agreed to unanimously. A communication was read from the Hon. 'H. Atmore (Minister of Education), advising that he would be visiting various schools in the Canterbury District on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Mr. Bignell was appointed to accompany the Minister on his visits to Rangiora, Oxford and other schools in the North-Western Ward.
