The candidates are: The Government nominee, Dr Thomas O’Higgins (brother of the murdered Kevin O’Higgins); and the representative of Fianna Fail, Mr Oscar Traynor, who supported the Communist leader, James Larkin. The Government has issued an extract from a document found in possession of one of those arrested in. the recent raid, viz., “We must devote all our energies to destroying the Ministers and their property. We must train the members, to use firearms, bombs, mines, and blow up theatres and cinemas.” The police for the past week have made 150 detentions in the hope of securing ringleaders.
