OLD PEOPLE’S OUTING. Usually the organisation of a picnic has as a primary object provision of a health-giving outing for children, but yesterday there was one which aimed to give enjoyment to those who are approaching the end of their careers. The chief promoter was Mr W. B. Kilgour, who enlisted a ready response to an appeal for help in organising an outing for the inmates of the Old People’s Home, with the result that a memorable picnic t )ok place in glorious weather. Mr W. Greenhill generously provided his motor lorry, in which 25 old men and four old ladies, with a plentiful supply of picnic provisions, were taken for a run first to the Three Mile where a halt was called for luncheon.

This was thoroughly enjoyed by the old folk, who expressed their appreciation of their hosts by recording their thanks and making special reference to the kindness extended to them by Messrs Greenhill and Kilgour, and also by Mr A. Brown, in whose charge they were. Subsequently tlie happy party proceeded to Hokitika, returning to Greymouth at 6 o’clock after an outing which was thoroughly enjoyed by the guests and by their hosts, whose kindly thoughts and action fully merited the pleasure they derived from the enterprise.
