NEW YORK, February 8. Tilden has been restored to a good amateur standing by the Executive of the United States Lawn Tennis Association. He was suspended some six months ago for a violation of the Association’s player-writer rule. He will immediately compete at the indoor tournaments at New York, and then will, proceed south to practise before he and Hunter begin a European tour in the coming spring. It is believed that it is unlikely that he will be chosen for the American Davis Cup team, although he probably' will compete at other important European tournaments. It is understood that he will obtain a place in the national ranking, despite his period of disqualification, and will head the list of the first ten. AMATEUR V. PROFESSIONAL. BOSTON, February 9. The United States Lawn Tennis Association Executive Committee adopted a recommendation that no player while a member of the Davis Cup team or other International team, representing the United States, shall write, give interviews, or contribute to publications or give radio talks with or without compensation, without the consent of the Davis Cup Committee. It is understood that the Executive Committee, declined to underwrite an open tournament between professionals, and amateurs, which was one of the indicated ways, wherein clubs, with expensive plants, could augment the revenue. The intimation was that, until the Professional Association puts its own house in order, no such tournament will be approved. It is an open secret, however, that in the open tournament, the play of the professionals might seriously overshadow that of the amateurs.

The ten ranking men are: —Tilden, Hunter, Lott, Hennessey, Allison, Vanryn, Mercer, Doeg, Seligison, Shield.
