It was .decided that the annual collection for subscriptions should be made during the next week.

A discussion took place about the advisability of the Plunket Nurse doing night duty, the members considering that it placed too great a task upon her, and would therefore recommend that in all cases where it is necessary for a Nurse to remain with a child, the parents be advised to secure the services of one.

The Medical Officer of Health, Christchurch, wrote pointing out that in respect of Mr A. J. Thompson’s application for permission to install a septic tank, that although the Drainage and Plumbing Regulations are now applicable to Hokitika Borough, they cannot actually apply to drainage in general, as the Council has not provided a sewerage scheme within the Borough; the drains which at present exist being merely storm water drains; and further, that the DirectorGeneral of Health had ruled that septic tanks were not to be agreed to, on the ground that it was likely to defeat the installing of a sewerage scheme within the Borough. The Returning Officer for the Westland Licensing District, intimated that Tuesday, the 12th. March, proximo, is the Statutory day for the election of the Licensing Committee, and forwarding a copy of the list of polling places for approval, and also asking the Council to fix the rate of payment of Deputy Returning Officers and poll clerks.
