MAN SHOT
LEAVING A DANCE HALL.
. SYDNEY, January 2. A mysterious shooting affray occurred in George Street West early yesterday morning, as a result of which Joseph Bragg, 24, of 36 Sydney-street, Erskineville, a dance hall assistant, now lies in Sydney Hospital with a revolver bullet in his forehead, pis condition is not serious. Bragg’s assailant disappeared immediately after firing the revolver. The weapon was later found by the police hidden in a drain pipe near the scene of the shooting. . The task of the police to determine the identity o'f the man who fired the shot has been rendered more , difficult by Bragg’s declaration that he would not be able to recognise the man' if he saw him again. In an interview in the hospital Bragg declared that some few weeks ago he had asked a man, who had been creating a noise in Roberts’ Dance Studios, to leave the hall. An argument followed, and the men resorted to fisticuffs outside the dancing establishment. The-man, having been severely punished, declared that ■he would “get” Bragg. Bragg had almost forgotten the fight until the incident yesterday morning recalled it to his nrind. He was unacquainted with the man. “I locked up the dance hall about 4.30 a.m.,” he said, “and walked down the stairs into George Street. As I stepped out of the doorway a man approached me. I could not see him clearly after having come from the darkened hall into the lighted street, but I think it was the man I had the fight, with some time before. He put his hand into his pocket and drew out a revolver, and .fired point blank at my head. The bullet hit me a glancing blow over the right eye, and I staggered back. Blood poured from the wound. The man then ran away. I did not lose consciousness, but walked up to a car that was standing nearby and asked to be driven to Sydney Hospital.” •
