IMPRESSIVE GATHERING. (United Service.) (Recd. December 10, 10 a.m.) LONDON, December 9. Ten. thousand participated in the Toe H birthday festival, which began with the Dean’s service at Westminster Abbey to which they marched, headed by Lord Plumer, Burgomaster of Ypres, 140 padres and 275 banner bearers from branches throughout the Empire. Afterwards they paraded past the Unknown Warrior’s tomb, gathering in the evening at Albert Hall, where Lord Forster, presiding, read His Majesty’s latest bulletin, the vast audience rose and sang “God Save the King.” Thereafter, a semi-religious masque was presented illustrating Toe H ideals, in which eight hundred costumed performers and a -massed choir of 500 voices participated. Finally, there was a solemn ceremony of lighting tho Lamps of Remembrance, the festival concluding with Archbishop Davidson’s prayers. Lord Forster read out messages from Melbourne, Sydney, Wellington and Christchurch. LATER. “The family of Toe H assembled for the birthday festival at Albert Hall,” sent a message to His Majesty, and received a reply from tho Queen saying the King appreciated the kind thought. The Burgomaster of Ypres recalled with gratitude the time when the armies from Britain and the Dominions rushed towards Ypres, and showed invincible resistance in the face of the enemy.
