FIRE OUTBREAKS
DUNEDIN FACTORY DESTROYED. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, November 11. The upper storey of the pram department in the workshops of Messrs J. and W. Fanulkner’s premises in Castle Street was destroyed by fire at about 5 o’clock this morning. The fire brigade was summoned at 5.16, but before the outbreak was extinguished considerable damage had been done. A huge quantity of metal was completely ruined by fire, and valuable coppered steel wire that cannot be replaced, and a large stock of brassware were rendered useless. The whole uppei’ floor was reduced to a tangled mass of wreckage, and practically nothing was saved. The stock on the ground floor was considerably damaged by water. In one place, twenty-five tons of bright steel bars were covered with wafer and these will all have to be cleaned and dried immediately. The fire was fortunately confined to one department, and no other part of the building was damaged. The origin of the fire, is a mystery. The building was insured for £l5OO, the stock for £2500 and the machinery for £2OO all in the Royal Exchange Assurance Company.
AUCKLAND HOUSE & CONTENTS. AUCKLAND, November 11. A six-roomed house at Cgstor Bay, beyond Takapuna, owned by W. J. Handley, was destroyed by fire together with the furniture last night. It was unoccupied at the time. The house is believed to have been insured in the Australian Provincial Association. The furniture was uninsured. N.S. WALES TOWN SHOPS'. SYDNEY, November 11. A complete business block in Coolah, a. western country town was swept by fire to-day. The damage is £12,000.
