A London cablegram announced tbe death of a noted horse trainer, Percy Gilpin.
Mr C..W. Thomas, Railway Stationmaster at Shannon, has been appointed Station Clerk at Westport.
A cablegram from Washington stated that Mr William Cochran, junior, of Pennsylvania, had been designated as Vice-Consul at Auckland. Mr W. Jeffries, Chairman of the Westland County Council, who has been visiting Christchurch, returned on Saturday to the Wpst Coast. Guests at the Albion Hotel include: Messrs H. J. Wicks, H. W. Nicholls, C. Jones (Christchurch), V; J. Tanner, S. J. Moulder, A. J. Tinney, N. J. Gill, Cobte (Wellington). / The King of Italy’s birthday, which occurred yesterday, was honoured at Greymouth by the flying of the Italian flag at the residence of Mr G. Perotti (Vice-Consul). Mr C. G. Jones, President of the Canterbury and Westland Land Agents’ Association, who has been visiting Greymouth, returned to Christchurch this morning.
Mr J. C. Duncan, Stationmaster at Auckland, will retire next Wednesday, after 38 years’ service in the Railway Department. Mr H. E. Adams, Stationtaiaster at Frankton Junction, will succeed him, and Mr E. Clark, of Lyttelton, will go to Frankton. —Press Assn.
The death has occurred at Christchurch of Margaret, wife of.Mr.G. 7T. Booth, membei’ of the Arbitration 'Court. Sympathetic reference was made ,to the death by Mr Justice Frazer, this morning, the Court adjourning for 15 minutes. —Press Assn.

Mr D. H. S. Riddiford of Featherston, has ’ been appointed to Wanganui College Board, in succession to the late Mr Robert Wilberton. Mr Riddiford is an old boy of Wanganui Collegiate school. Some years ago he endowed a scholarship of a capital value of £lOOO, tenable at his old school.—Press Assn. w
A serious accident on Saturday be* fell' Mr E. Small, for several years sawyer at the Bell Hill sawmill and now in the employ of Harley and Co., Brewers, Nelson. Mr Small was driving a motor-cycle and sidecar when he collided with a lorry. The flesh of his left leg was torn off and his right leg fractured in three places, while die suffered serious facial abrasions. He was conveyed to the Nelson Hospital. His condition was serious.
The death took place this morning of Daniel Liddy, an old resident of the Coast, who for many years followed the occupation of a gold miner in the Barrytown district. Deceased was aged 78 years, and was born in County Clare, Ireland. He leaves no relatives. The funeral will take place to-morrow morning, leaving.the Cobden ». Catholic Church at. 9.30 a.m. for the Cobden cemetery Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m.
The death occurred yesterday at Wellington from acute neuritis, of Felix Morris, third son of the late James and. Mrs Morris, of Reefton. Deceased was born at Reefton, and was about 40 1 years of age. He leaves a 1 widow, formerly Miss Scott, of Nelson, and two children (one son and one daughter). He joined the Lands Department, Nelson, and at his death was Registrar of Deeds at Wellington. He is survived by two brothers, John (Carterton), William (Reefton), and four sisters, (telegraphed our correspondent).
X The death is announced from Christ*Jchurch of Mr J.ohn F. Peake (49), suddenly. He was secretary of the New Zealand Cricket Council for the past fourteen years, and was a former well known Rugby referee. Death is believed to. have been due to heart failure. He leaves a widow, a young son and daughter. He was assistant manager for/ New Zealand of the MasseyHarris Company. As a cricketer he had a good record in Otago as a member of the Albion Club, and in Canterbury as member of the West Christchurch Club. He came north from Otago in 190?. In 1924 he was manager Of the New Zealand team that visited' Australia, and which met with surprising success.,.
