KUMARA NOTES

(Oar Own Correspondent.) i On Friday evening next, November 16, a grand ball, in aid of the Plunket 'Society, takes place in the Memorial Hall, Kumara. Apart altogether from ’the object of the ball, which is most worthy, Kumara has the reputation of being able to run a ball second to none on tho Coast, and its success is assured. Popular prices will be charged, viz., double ticket 5/-, extra lady 2/G. Williams’ orchestra will supply the music, whilst a sumptuous supper will be provided by the ladies. Mr. and Mrs. H. Ford, who have been absent in Christchurch, returned to Kumara on Thursday evening. Mrs. Hay, Wellington, paid a visit to Kumara on Friday. The Kumara Tennis Club was favoured with ideal weather conditionas, for its opening day, last Wednesday. A large number of visitors, including members of the All Saints’ Tennis Club, Hokitika, were present. During the afternoon friendly matches were played between the All Saints’ and Kumara clubs, resulting in the majority of games in favour of All Saints. A dainty afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies’ committee, and the afternoon was voted by all to be one of the most successful since the inauguration of the Club. Judging by the enthusiasm displayed by members, tennis is reviving in Kumara. All members are taking a keen interest in improving the court, and much improvement has aliready been effected. After receiving a top-dressing, the court will compare favourably with any other court on the Coast. It is the intention of the committee to arrange frequent matches with rival clubs, so it behoves all members to improve their play by assiduous practice. The feommittee take this opportunity of ■thanking Mesdaines Spiers, Aldridge,

and all those who assisted to ipake the opening day such a 'success.
