Mr Sam Baddeley left this morning for Auckland, where he Intends to reside. ' ' Mf L. Gilham, who has been visiting the West Coast, left to-day for Wellington and Melbourne. Mr P. J. McLean who has been visiting Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, will return this afternoon. Captain Searle/~of the Salvation Army, who has been visiting Christchurch, returned to Greymouth yesterday. The condition of Mr. Mettrick, senr., who underwent an operation at the Greymouth Hospital, showed no improvement to-day. Captain Mathieson, of the Salvation Army (Rangiora) is visiting Greymouth and district. He is the guest of fttr. and Mrs. Harris, Cobden. Mr P. J. S. Duffy, who has left Westport for .Wellington, was farewelled by the Hockey Referees’ Association, of which he was a member, and presented with a smoker’s outfit. Mr Russell J). Chester, Examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Academy’and Royal College of Music London, arrived from Westport this morning, en route to Hokitika. Archdeacon and Mrs Kempthorne, of Nelson/ celebrated their golden wedding on Wednesday. Mr Justice Herdman, who has been touring Great Britain and France for the past seven months, left Southampton last Saturday for New York. After a few weeks’ holiday in the Eastern States, he will leave for Australia, and expects to arrive in Auckland early in January. The office of His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner, Wellington, has re- • ceived cabled advice of the death on November 8, after a short illness of Mr R. W. Matthew, C.M.J., Chevalier of the Legion of Honour,, and director of the Empire Trades and Economic (divisions of the department ,of Overseas Trade, London. He was born in J 1879, and entered the War Office in 1903. He transferred a year later to the Board of Trade, and in 1917 joined the Department of Overseas Trade. — Press Assn. The death took place on Wednesday of Mrs. Margaret Jane Bradley, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. Walsh, King Edward Avenue, Epsom. Born in Victoria, Mrs. Bradley came to New Zealand in 1870 and settled on the West Coast, where later she married her first husband Mr. Thomas Wardrope, a well known business man. The greater proportion of' Mrs. Bradley’s life was spent on the West Coast. The couple were typical West Coasters being well known for their hospitality. Mrs. Bradley had been in failing health for some years prior to her death. She is survived by her sister Mrs. James Taylor, senr., of GreymOuth, and the following children: Mrs. C. W. Johnson (Gisborne), Mrs. J. Walsh (Epsom), Mrs, Jones (Greymouth), Mrs. Williams (Te Kuiti), Mrs. Edgehill (Mokia), Miss R. Wardrope (Te Kuiti) and Mr. Thomas Wardrope (Westport).
