When the news was heard of the death of Mr G. Gardiner, who was a resident of Runanga for the last 20 years, much sympathy was expressed for Mrs Gardiner in her sad bereavement.

The carpenters have been very busy owing to the very stormy weather last week. Fences and chimneys were blown down, the roof was blown off Mi- D. Williams’ motor shed, and a portion of the roof of Mr Bowden’s house was blown loosm. Master J. Kyle, son of Mr and Mrs J. Kyle, Pitt Street, who had his legbroken some time ago, is making progress towards recovery, and left-the hospital on Saturday. The bowlers are forming a debating club and a party of the Greymouth United Debating Club came out to Runanga to give our members an evening. An enjoyable time was spent. The general meeting of the Runanga Co-operative Society was held on Wednesday. The report and balance sheet were read and accepted as very satisfactory. Mr Millar was re-elected to the position of President. Three new committee men were elected, Messrs A. Keown, S. Unwin, R. Powell. Mr E. Kennedy was re-elected 1:q the position of trustee. Messrs Francis and Farquahar, of Blackball, take over the business of Mr S. Baddely, from November 1. Mr 11. Hadcroft has purchased Mr Baddely’s house. Mr Baddely intends going to Auckland to reside. Mrs Oyle, who has been ill for some time, is now improving. Mrs J. Herd, of Christchurch, arrived on Saturday’s express.

Mrs R. Dando is an inmate of the Grey Hospital, and her condition is causing her relatives and friends anxiety.

Mrs I. Spedding has now recovered her usual health after a short illness.
