(Press Association.) DROWNING FATALITY. OAMARU, October 12. Jack Miller, aged 50, single, a cook at the hydro-electric camp at Awakino, fell from a bridge into the flooded Waitaki River, at Kurow, yesterday. His body has not been recovered. KILLED BY TREE.

HAMILTON, October 11.

There was an inquest this afternoon on Adam Lind Bruce, a farm hand, single, aged 27, who died at the Waikato Hospital from injuries received when a tree fell on him near Te Arolia. The medical evidence was that a clot of blood from his broken leg moved to the lungs. Coroner Wilson, S.M., adjourned the inquest for an autopsy.

INJURED BOY’S DEATH. GISBORNE, October 12.

Robert Macaulay Bruce, an English schoolboy, died from injuries sustained through being caught in the belt of an engine driving a shearing machine at Mokoiwi Station. Owing to the flooded river, it was impossible for a doctor to reach him, or to receive him into hospital.

PRISONERS SENTENCED. WELLINGTON, October 12

The following prisoners were sentenced by Mr Justice Ostler at the Supreme " Court: —Samuel Herman Bird, 28, who had pleaded guilty at Palmertston North to theft, . four charges, nine months’ hard labour; George Edward Nelson or Bernsee, forgery, uttering and theft at Hamilton, New Plymouth and Dannevirke, three years’ reformative treatment; Tiwha Iti, breaking, entering and theft at Hawera, three years’ reformative treatment ; Samuel Ansley McKay, 28, theft as a servant at Wellingon forgery and uttering, nine months’ hard labour; Walter Heiford, 48, attempted arson at Dannevirke, twelve months’ hard labour.

HOBSON POWER SCHEME. DARGAVILLE, October 12.

The Hobson Electric Power Board, at a meeting last night unaminmously adopted the report of Mr T. R. Overton on the load survey of the Board’s district and the probable cost of installation and reticulation.

The Government stated its willingness to bring power from Arapuni to tihe Board’s district, and it is understood that a' survey of the route has already been made. The Board lias been waiting developments for some time, but it now seems to be certain that the Hobson County, and probably Otamatea adjoining, who are also having a load survey taken by Mr Overton, will have electric power and lighting within two years. The estimated cost of the scheme is £109,000. There are just on one thousand milking plants and two large butter factories in the Board’s area; also sawmills, flaxmills, and metalcrushing plants.
