GREY JOCKEY CLUB
SUMMER PROGRAMME. The meeting of the Greymouth Jockey Club was continued yesterday afternoon, after the “Star had gone to press, the following being present: Messrs T. E. Coates (chairman), W. R. Kettle, W. E. Reynolds, H. D. James, Li. F. Doogan, A. Beban, J. D. Whigham, W. H Parfitt, G. R. Harker, and H. J. Bignell. The Chairman extended a welcome to Mr Bignell. The Programme Committee presented the following suggested programme lor the Summer Meeting : —
First Day : Maiden Stakes, Hurdles, Trot, Grey Valley Handicap, Stewards’, Trot’ Welter, and Brunner Handicap. Second Day : Trial Stakes, Hurdles, Trot, Grey Cup, Walton Memorial, Trot’ High-weight, Electric. Third Day : Novice, Hurdles, Trot, President’s,' Blair Memorial, Trot, Ahaura Welter, Farewell. It was resolved to reduce the prize monev of the Greymouth Cup from £300“(£250, and a cup valued at £5O) by £5O, making it £2OO cash and a cup valued at £5O, and to leave all the other galloping prizes as they are at present. It was resolved to make the prizes for the trotting events £lOO each, to handicap on the yards system. A committee consisting of Messrs Coates, Doogan and Beban was appointed to decide details as to class and distance.
In view of the occurrence at the Auckland races on Saturday through the start in the Mitchelson Handicap. Mr Coates thought some device should be adopted to prevent such a happening at the Greymouth course being possible. It was resolved that the Chairman make any arrangement deemed necessary by him.
